The Residency Covenant
Before we secure your desk at the Priory...
By joining us in the Deux-Sèvres, you are entering into a shared commitment to the work and the cohort. Please note the following essentials of our residency:
Terms & Conditions: The Harridan Writers’ Retreat
1. The Residency & Agreement
By submitting an application and subsequently paying a deposit, you ("The Writer") enter into a binding contract with Anonymous Is A Woman Theatre Company CIC ("The Organiser"). These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
2. Application & Selection
The Harridan Writers’ Retreat is a curated residency. We reserve the right to select participants based on the "Collaborative Lens" of the cohort. Admission is at the sole discretion of the founders.
3. Payment & Deposits
Deposit: To secure one of the ten available desks, a non-refundable deposit of £1000 is required upon acceptance of your application.
Balance: The remaining balance must be cleared no later than 30 days before the retreat start date. Failure to pay the balance may result in the loss of your spot and deposit.
4. Cancellation by the Writer
Writing is unpredictable, but our logistical commitments to the Priory of Pressigny are fixed.
More than 60 days' notice: You will forfeit your deposit, but any further balance paid will be refunded.
Less than 60 days' notice: No refunds can be issued unless we are able to fill your desk from our waiting list. If the spot is filled, we will refund your balance minus a small administrative fee.
5. Travel & Insurance
The Harridan Writers’ Retreat is a land-only residency.
Responsibility: You are responsible for your own travel to and from the region (Deux-Sèvres, France).
Insurance: It is a mandatory condition of booking that you hold comprehensive Personal Travel Insurance. This must cover medical expenses, personal liability, and trip cancellation. The Organiser is not liable for travel delays or strikes.
6. Dietary & Medical Requirements
We take pride in our "Full Residency" catering. You must notify us of any severe allergies or dietary requirements at the time of application. While we take every care, we operate in a historic 13th-century kitchen and cannot guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment.
7. Intellectual Property
Your work is sacred. All intellectual property created by the Writer during the retreat remains the sole property of the Writer. Any "Story Exchanges" or sharing circles are confidential; we foster a confidential space.
8. Liability & The Property
The Priory of Pressigny is a historic 13th-century home.
Safety: While we ensure the property is a "Creative Sanctuary," you accept the inherent nature of a historic building (uneven floors, stairs, etc.).
Conduct: We celebrate "making trouble" on the page, but expect respect for the property and fellow residents. We reserve the right to ask a guest to leave (without refund) if their conduct is detrimental to the group's safety or the "Collective Lens."
9. Force Majeure
The Organiser shall not be liable for any failure to perform its obligations where such failure results from causes beyond our reasonable control (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics, or government travel restrictions).
